Description Who knew the undercarriage of a bridge could be so romantic? In 2007, Mark and Sara had a courthouse wedding with themselves, their two best friends and me. It was my first wedding and I was a complete stranger to them all. I remember being nervous but after the awkward past, we quickly became friends. That day, we ventured all around the city of Milwaukee taking pictures. Eventually, we came to the Marsupial Bridge, a truly unique and beautiful pedestrian bridge suspended within the steel support structure of the Holton Street Viaduct. We didn't stay long but sometimes a moment is all that matters. For such a spontaneous kind of day, we couldn't have planned this much better.
Mark Cullen, Portland, Oregon Member Since February 2008 Artist Statement I am so lucky to have grown up with miles of woods to play in behind my house. Oh, how I explored the land and fell in love with nature. By the time my parents bought me my first camera, I was more than ready to take the leap into landscape photography.
I remember showing my Dad one of my first ever pictures of a sunset from those woods. He held it for a while, studied it and proclaimed, "Hey! You're pretty good!" And from that day forward, I was a photographer.
Since those days, I've moved around a bit and spent time in Minnesota, North Carolina, and for the past ten years, Oregon. My wife and I live in Portland with our easy to leave for two days cat, Oliver.
I'm lucky to live a life of adventure and exploration. It's not all sunshine and roses but I can't help but find beauty in nearly everything. My photography is about capturing that beauty, then presenting it how I hold the moment in my mind.
Each of these photographs are very special to me and it makes me immensely proud to share them with you. Thank you for looking at my art and enjoy your day.
