Valley Floor
The Willamette valley holds several of Oregon's principal cities and a majority of the the states population lives within the basin. It was created by way of massive Ice Age floods that left the valley floor thick with flood-carried sediments, making the valley extremely fertile. As such, this was the "promised land" and was what immigrants sought while moving west along the 2,000-mile Oregon Trail in the late 1800s.
