Description The Willamette valley holds several of Oregon's principal cities and a majority of the the states population lives within the basin. It was created by way of massive Ice Age floods that left the valley floor thick with flood-carried sediments, making the valley extremely fertile. As such, this was the 'promised land' and was what immigrants sought while moving west along the 2,000-mile Oregon Trail in the late 1800s.
Mark Cullen, Portland, Oregon Member Since February 2008 Artist Statement I am so lucky to have grown up with miles of woods to play in behind my house. Oh, how I explored the land and fell in love with nature. By the time my parents bought me my first camera, I was more than ready to take the leap into landscape photography.
I remember showing my Dad one of my first ever pictures of a sunset from those woods. He held it for a while, studied it and proclaimed, "Hey! You're pretty good!" And from that day forward, I was a photographer.
Since those days, I've moved around a bit and spent time in Minnesota, North Carolina, and for the past ten years, Oregon. My wife and I live in Portland with our easy to leave for two days cat, Oliver.
I'm lucky to live a life of adventure and exploration. It's not all sunshine and roses but I can't help but find beauty in nearly everything. My photography is about capturing that beauty, then presenting it how I hold the moment in my mind.
Each of these photographs are very special to me and it makes me immensely proud to share them with you. Thank you for looking at my art and enjoy your day.
